Doris Elizabeth Ort, 88, of Forest Road, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2008) in Riverside Village Healthcare Center. She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Elkhart to Bernard and Gertrude (Reim) Moore. On Nov. 14, 1940, she married Whitney R. Ort in Elkhart.

He survives along with two sons, David Ort of French Lick and Rick (Hope) Ort of North Carolina; one daughter, Nancy (Richard) Simmons of Otsego, Mich.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois App of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Moore, and one sister, Bernice White.

Mrs. Ort worked for 10 years as a secretary at Christian Rule Overseas Program, Elkhart chapter, and was a member of First Methodist Church, Elkhart. She was an active square dancer and enjoyed playing bridge, camping in her travel trailer, looking for shells on the beach, and traveling. Her favorite spot was Hawaii.

She and her husband wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla., for 14 years.
