Doris E. Jurgens, 86, of Virginia, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at St. Johnâ??s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born August 19, 1923, in Petersburg, IL; the daughter of Carl Louis and Elizabeth Market Hinrichs. She married Elmer W. Jurgens on June 22, 1944, in Petersburg, IL and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1990.
She is survived by two sons, Dick Jurgens (wife, Barbara) of Towanda and Bob Jurgens of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Angela Kelly (husband, Duane) of Strasburg, Dr. Valerie Jurgens of Charleston, SC, and Ben Jurgens of St. Louis, MO; three great grandchildren, Maggie, Abbie, and Kynzie Kelly; a special friend, Clarence Cunningham of Virginia; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Harold, and Jack Hinrichs, and three sisters, Laura DeLong, Alma Rhodes, and Clara Park.
Mrs. Jurgens was a 1941 graduate of Petersburg High School and a longtime farm wife and homemaker near Philadelphia, IL. She was a member of Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau and Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She also served in a volunteer capacity for many area charitable organizations.
