Donna Jean Weyer, our much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died at her home on December 10th. Donna hated long obituaries; consequently writing one for such a fully lived life will be difficult.
Donna was born in Youngstown Ohio and was the adored youngest child of the late William and Vera (Duesing) Kuhlman. Donna excelled at school and eventually graduated from Kent State with a Masters Degree in Mathematics. She married the love of her life, Donald Evan Weyer in August of 1950 and after 41 years of marriage, he predeceased her on August 9, 1991. She adored him for his out-sized sense of humor and zest for life. They shared many common interests and their love was a beacon to their family. While she worried she’d see her family infrequently as they grew older, in reality, they couldn’t keep them away.
Among her many attributes Donna was intelligent, fun-loving, non-judgmental, and a giver of unconditional love. She touched the lives of many people. Her two daughters, Rhonda Weyer (Pete Poznak) of Midland, Michigan, and Nheena Weyer Ittner (Neil Cumberlidge) of Marquette, Michigan will miss her profoundly for the rest of their lives.
After retiring from Delta College, where she taught Math, Donna defined her job in life as creating wonderful memories in the hearts of her grandchildren. Donna leaves four devoted grandchildren, Dr. Ilsa Ittner (Andy Taylor) of Novi, Michigan, Ricci Ittner of Austin, Texas, Alex Poznak at Michigan Technological University, and Sam Poznak at the University of Michigan. Donna would spend hours talking with her granddaughters, and listening with an open mind to far-ranging topics. She often watched scary movies with them, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. She was proud of Ilsa’s accomplishment of becoming a Physician and Ricci’s accomplishment of receiving a Masters in Arts Administration. Ilsa and Ricci’s affection for their grandmother included many hours of cuddling with her in her bed and talking. Alex and Sam were fortunate to live in the same home as her for the past 15 years. Donna was an unfailing fan of Sam’s guitar playing and bad singing. She loved his laughter and delighted in many of his favorite TV shows. Donna was a good sport to Alex’s teasing. Alex was her biggest protector and his helpfulness for anything she requested touched her heart.
Donna also leaves her beloved brother, William Kuhlman, and her sister-like sister-in-law, Jane Kuhlman. She thought of their children, Keith Kuhlman, Midland, Michigan, Kris Kuhlman (Carol) of Midland, Michigan, and Kathy Kuhlman (Alberto Procissi) of Florence, Italy almost as her own. Stories of their children’s lives and their children’s children’s lives never ceased to entertain her. A brother, Jack Kuhlman, predeceased her.
