Donna Jean Oswalt died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, August 8, 2020. She was born September 28, 1936 in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Delbert S. and Margarite L (Fairbanks) Hughes and had been a lifelong area resident.

Her father gave her the nickname “Pickles” due to the fact they were always out of pickles in the ice box.

Donna moved to Shakespeare Avenue at the age of five and moved three doors down when she married. She lived at this address for the rest of her life. She attended Central High where she graduated liking Accounting class and English. She baby sat several children including her grandson, Bradley, along with a niece and nephew. Donna became a mail sorter in the 90’s. Her favorite job was working at a greenhouse where growing flowers and plants was her passion. Donna loved Word Search puzzles, Murder Mysteries, and cleaning. Mom was a double cancer survivor and wished to thank her childhood friend Sandra McGuire for her help during the second bout.

On November 1, 1957, Donna married Harold E. Oswalt who preceded her in death on May 13, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ronald J. Hughes, and Bruce D Hughes. Donna is survived by her sons, Brad S. (Mandy) Oswalt of Galesburg and Kurt A. (Genipher) Oswalt of Kalamazoo; and grandsons, Bradley Oswalt and Austin Oswalt.
