Donald Wayne Oakgrove, Sr., “Niigaani binesii“ which means “First Bird Ahead” age 70, of the Kingfisher Clan and Red Lake, Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. He was born on December 8, 1948 in Red Lake, MN to Cecelia (Mann) and Lawrence Oakgrove, Sr.

Donald grew up in the Red Lake and Redby area most of his life. After high school, he completed two and a half years of college in New Mexico before moving back to Redby. Some of his hobbies were going to the powwows in the summer and watching the Red Lake Basketball team play. Donald liked to go to the casino to play the slots and going shopping. He was an avid reader, something he enjoyed doing every day. One of his favorite things to do was listening to music. He would listen to flute songs in the mornings while he listened to the birds sing and powwow songs in the evenings; he loved the beating of the drums, it reminded him of a heartbeat. Everyone who knew Donald also knew that he was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan.

Family that welcome Donald to the spirit world are his parents; Cecelia and Lawrence Oakgrove, Sr., daughter; Constance Oakgrove, son; Donald Oakgrove, Jr., brother; Lawrence Oakgrove, Jr., and sister; Roslin Kay Oakgrove

He is survived by his children; Dawn, Christopher, Christian, Eric, Erica, Maddie and Roslyn, brothers; Ron, Raliegh and Roger, sister; Janice, grandson; Donald Oakgrove III, many more grandchildren, ex-wife; Margie Garcia, mother of his children; Karen Wells, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
