Those left to honor Donald’s memory are his wife, Mary of Newton; son, Gary Versteegh of Hubbard, Iowa; his 2 step-sons, Daryl Kanne of Des Moines, Iowa and Alan Kanne of Salem, Oregon; step-daughter, Denise Kanne of Iowa City, Iowa; his 3 step-grandchildren, DJ Wright, and Taran and Marissa Annam; 5 brothers, Kenneth (Joann) Versteegh, Vernon (Jayne) Versteegh, Carl (Donna) Versteegh, Duane (Karen) Versteegh, and Marvin (Barbara) Versteegh; his 2 sisters, Nadine (Kenneth) Schwartz and Virginia (Bruce) Meredith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Maud (Kling) Versteegh and 1st wife, Mary Ellen (Machin) Versteegh.
Donald was a graduate of Newton High School in 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a boiler operator at the Maytag Company for 37 years, retiring in 1991. He also was a self-employed mechanic.
