Donald Peterson, age 92, of Algona, Iowa died on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Donald Merle Peterson, the son of Elmer and Gertie (McFarland) Peterson, was born on September 13, 1922 in Boone, Iowa. He attended school in Stratford. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in the European Theater where he received the Purple Heart and Silver Star. After his discharge, Donald was united in marriage with Inez Burns on August 23, 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They moved to Algona in 1953 and he worked road construction. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Left to cherish Donald’s memory are his children, Donald Peterson, Jr. of Algona and Marcia Olson of Britt; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son Brian Keith Peterson; two brothers, Marvin and Verne Peterson; and a sister, Mable Kail.
