Donald N. DeWitt

 

Macedon: Donald passed away on February 12, 2018 at age 86.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce DeWitt; children, Rodd (Marie) DeWitt, Joel DeWitt and Pamela (Ron) DeWitt Simmons; grandsons, Stephen and Brian DeWitt and Ben Simmons; many friends from his music community.

 

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the West Point Military Band for 4 years.  A graduate of The Crane School of Music at Potsdam State University of New York and recipient of a Professional Degree from Columbia University.  Donald taught music for many schools and colleges for over 62 years, including Finger Lakes College, John Phillip Sousa School in Port Washington, Spring Valley and Palmyra-Macedon School District.  For over 12 years, Donald taught music at Community Education Division at Nazareth College.  He participated in the Shriners Band, Rochester Music Teachers Band, For Dancer’s Only and various other groups.  Donald was the premier conductor of the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra and for 16 years he was the Program Director of Blue Lake Fine Art Camp in Twin Lake, MI.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed landscaping around his home.  Donald was a very loving and giving father and grandfather.
