Donald Mathew Brudie, 89, passed away on April 20, 2015, at Kindred Health Care in Moscow. He was the only son born to Martin and Clara (Krantz) Brudie on February 8, 1926, in Minot, North Dakota. At the age of six the family transitioned to north Idaho where Don was educated in a one room schoolhouse and lived in a one room skid house in the mountains near Priest River, Idaho, while his dad worked as a log scaler. We heard all the stories about how deep the snow was and how far he had to trek to get to the road to catch a ride-and it likely was all true. The family eventually moved to town and he graduated from Priest River High School in 1943. Dad joined the Navy just before his 18th birthday in 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Talladega in WWII and was on the front at the Battle of Iwo Jima.
