Donald Charles Lindsey was born on March 21, 1939 at Laurens, IA to Harvey Merrill and Lillian Henrietta (Benson) Lindsey. He was the second child joining an older sister Joan. Don was baptized in Laurens, IA. The Lindsey family moved to a farm east of Spirit Lake, IA in 1942. A brother Dale was born October 2, 1945. Don first attended North Superior School then Spirit Lake Consolidated School graduating in 1956. He was active in 4-H and FFA. Fitting and showing livestock became his greatest interest. After graduation, he worked with Adams Ranch in Odebolt fitting and grooming purebred Hereford cattle at major livestock shows. On June 27, 1957 he married Connie Bush, at the Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN. Don and Connie divorced in 1973. Don worked for Karl Hoffman fitting cattle that won many fed carlot awards. Don worked for Chuck Woods at his purebred Angus Farm, East of Dickens. Don married Charlene (Wiand) Fanning on June 29, 1973 at Miller, SD. They made their home west of Lake Park, where Don was working for Cohrs Cattle Co as an order buyer. Don and Char then moved East of Spirit Lake where Don Farmed for many years. In 1996 he began working as a Field Rep. at Sheldon Livestock. He was a member of the Good News Community Church in Okoboji and a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association. He loved his job at the Sheldon Sale Barn. Don’s greatest passion was working with Cattle and working the land. Left to cherish Donald’s memory is his wife of 41 years, Charlene; four sons, Lon Lindsey of Milford, Shane Lindsey of Prairie City, Jay Lindsey of Des Moines and Dustin (Jeri) Lindsey of Terril; a daughter, Robin (Dana) Johnson of Bellevue, NE; a step-daughter, Kristi (Mike) Wolthuis of Fostoria; a step-son, Tracy Fanning; ten grandchildren, Lauren, Natalie, Amanda (Lucas) Vangeness, Nicole, Zach, Lindsey (Paul) Hardin, Kylee (Kevin) Ohlrich, Tyler, Jared and Kelsey; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Joan (Clyde) Wishart of Minneapolis, MN; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and a brother Dale.
