Donald Lee Bodey 80 of Rupert passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mini-Cassia Care Center.
Donald was born to Alywin and Helen Bodey in Spokane Washington, May 13, 1937. His mother Helen told stories about what a gentleman Don was as a young boy. He was well mannered, respectful, and a very hard worker. He married Sally Bodey just out of High School and from their union there was one son, Michael Dean Bodey. Shortly after getting married Don enlisted in the United States Army. He served the country that he dearly loved for 25 years. During this time, he served in many roles eventually having to retire due to his hearing which had declined significantly during his years of active duty. At the time of his retirement he was told that he had the worst hearing of any active duty soldier but never let that slow him down. In 1977 Don met the love of his life Judy they married and raised two sons, Jean Paul and Jay Michael. Don was a proud father who was known for defending his boys adamantly. He was strict but fair. After retiring from the United States Army Don began working for the Bureau of Land Management and he would later retire from there as well.
Don was passionate about traveling and he and Judy enjoyed experiencing other cultures. They lived and travelled to various countries they particularly loved cruise ships and Branson, Missouri. They went to Germany to spend time with their son Jay while he was deployed there. In his later years Don’s hearing continued to decline and eventually hearing aids no longer worked. Despite this Don was a great Polka dancer he would tell others, “I don’t have to hear it I can feel the beat”. He had an infectious, charming smile and quick wit! He loved animals and refused to hunt, instead he was well known for adopting the various strays that were fortunate enough to find his house!
Don was a devout, lifelong Catholic and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He believed in God, Country and Family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William. He is survived by his wife Judy, his children Jay (Jerilyn), Michael Dean, and stepson Jean Paul as well as 11 grandchildren.
