Donald L. Rackley Sr., 85, of Long Branch, NJ, passed away on March 20, 2015, at the Monmouth Care Center, Long Branch, NJ.  He was born on November 7, 1929, in Atlantic Highlands, NJ to James and Mattie Rackley.  

Donald was a lifelong resident of Asbury Park, NJ who later moved to Long Branch, NJ. He graduated from Atlantic Highlands High School in Atlantic, Highlands, NJ and attended Virginia Seminary & College, Lynchburg, VA.  He was formerly employed at the Bendix Aviation Corporation in Eatontown, NJ as a production supervisor, and later retired from Care One at King James Nursing Home, Atlantic Highlands, NJ, as a maintenance supervisor.

Donald was affectionately known to many as “Pop.” He was an outstanding athlete; excelling in football, baseball, and basketball. Those who knew him remember how Donald loved to go to Monmouth Park Race Track in Oceanport, NJ.  His other favorite pastimes were bowling, playing horseshoes, and rooting for the New York Giants. He was a great cook, barbecuing the best spare ribs in town.  Donald “Pop” will be truly missed by family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; ex-wife, Elsie V. Rackley; and his son, Donald “Bucky” Rackley, Jr.  He is survived by his three daughters, Shirley and husband, Walter Gordon, of Locust Grove, GA, Sandy and husband, Warren Clanton, of East Windsor, NJ, Donna and husband, Art Toomer, of McDonough, GA;  grandchildren, Kelly Spires, Walter Gordon Jr., Jasmine Sandifer, Warren and Kori Clanton, Teniece and Takia Rackley; three great grandchildren; his companion of over 30 years, Edith Owens; and her sons, Reggie and Derek Tynes; and a host of extended family, other relatives, and numerous friends.
