HIPPENSTEEL, Donald L., Mattawan, Michigan. Donald passed away peacefully with family at his side on Saturday afternoon, November 13, 2010, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born July 14, 1948, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Chester and Harriet Norcross Hippensteel.

He lived most of his adult life in Mattawan, MI, where he was a previous owner of Ports of Call party store. Don retired as a pipefitter from Union Local 357 after 35 years. Don was an avid car enthusiast attending car shows regularly showing his two Corvettes and winning many awards. He also enjoyed driving in many local parades and his annual trip with other Corvette buddies to Bowling Green, KY each spring. Other hobbies included bowling, golf, handball, camping, softball, storytelling, tinkering with his cars in his garage and hunting on his property where he enjoyed hosting opening day each year at “The Barn”.

Don had a large heart and was willing to help anyone that needed it without hesitation. Don was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Hippensteel and a niece. He is survived by: two children, Sara Frimand of Paw Paw and Steve Jennifer Hippensteel of Mattawan; twin grandsons, Jacob and Thomas Hippensteel; two sisters, Marcia Ralph Stafford of Kalamazoo and Linda David Barnd of San Antonio, TX; companion, Dee Chriscoe; and several nieces and nephews.
