Donald (Don) Echtermeyer, age 89, a devoted & fun-loving husband, father and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Centennial, Colorado on April 19, 2022.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Patricia (Pat) and his parents Herbert and Melania Echtermeyer.  He is survived by his daughter Theresa Echtermeyer and her husband, Conor McGahey of Littleton, his son John Echtermeyer of Centennial and his daughter Melissa Dundas and her husband Chris of Denver.
Don was born on August 30, 1932 in Omaha, NE, the oldest of his three siblings, Jim, Janet and Andrea.  After attending Catholic Seminary and graduating high school, he attended the US Naval Training Center in San Diego and served 4 years of active duty in the Korean War, retiring from the Navy as a BT1 (Boiler Technician First Class Petty Officer).

Don returned to Omaha for college and completed a business degree at the University of Omaha.  He met his wife Pat, a nursing student, on a night out on the town; they danced, dated and married.
After marrying, the couple moved from Omaha to Kansas City to begin Don’s banking career and have their first child, Theresa.  They moved to Denver for a job with Central Bank of Denver where he became a Senior Vice President in charge of correspondent banking.  They had two more children, John and Melissa before moving to the Littleton area where they lived permanently.

After retiring from his banking career as the President of the People’s Bank of Aurora, Don combined his proficiency in construction and love of the theater to work as a set-designer/builder for the Town Hall Arts Center.  His final retirement job was at the South Suburban Golf Course in Centennial, combining his passions for golf and playing cards with the guys.
Don had been an active member of the Rotary Club of Aurora Chapter, a board member of Lakewood Country Club and a mental health advocate and supporter of the Arapahoe / Douglas Mental Health Network.  He was a generous and supportive friend, neighbor and business leader.
Don loved music, playing cards, was an avid golfer and a die-hard Denver Broncos fan.  He was a reader, a current events politico and a lover of the English lexicon.  He was an active resident at Someren Glen Senior Living Community and had a mutual love for the residents and team members.  Amongst his many loves, the greatest were his family, colleagues and friends.  He is dearly loved, and missed.
