Dona Thompson

BRIGHAM CITY – Dona Mae Smith Thompson, 87, passed away at her home in Brigham City, Utah on Thursday, June 16, 2016. She was born in Huntsville, Utah to Clarence and Selma Mortensen Smith on December 7, 1928. She attended school in Huntsville and graduated from Weber High School in 1947. She met a Plain City boy, Grant Thompson, on a blind date and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 18, 1949.
Grant and Dona spent five years in Wilmington, Delaware and then moved back to Utah in 1959. They built a home in Brigham City and raised six children. Dona was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Grant and Dona were married for sixty years when Grant passed away in July of 2009.
Dona was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s auxiliaries. Grant and Dona served in the England London Mission from 1993-1995.
She is survived by five children: Brent (Lissa) of Bountiful, UT; Beverly Rowan (Steven) of Merced, CA; Shauna Thompson (Mark) of Brigham City, UT; Drew (Susan) of Spanish Fork, UT; and Tiffanie Johnson (Rick) of Brigham City, UT; foster daughter Marilynn Betoni (Leroy), Kirkland, NM; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Dona is also survived by siblings: Florence Mumford, Cleo Zarek (Al), and Ila Hosley (Ray).
Dona was preceded in death by her husband, Grant, 3 A½ year old daughter, Sharon, a grandson, David Thompson, her parents, her brothers, Jack, Larry, and her sister, Barbara.
