Dominick J. DiPietro, 85Dominick “Dom” DiPietro, 85, of Collingdale, Pa born April 27, 1936, died on Sunday, December 5th, 2021. Born in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia to a large extended Italian family, Dom was adventurous, athletic, and outgoing always sharing stories with his family and friends. He attended Overbrook High School and went on graduating cum laude at Villanova University in 1959 with a major in Business. He enlisted in the Air Force and served in the National Guard from 1959 to 1965 with the 111th Air Force Squadron stationed in Willow Grove, Pa. He also served time at Lackland Air Force base in Texas working as a mechanic on Air Force Weapon Control Systems. Dom spent his youth working with his Father, Achille (Carl) DiPietro at the family bars/ restaurants and catering businesses including the Sunset Restaurant in Upper Darby, PA, Steer n’ Stein, Ardmore (23 East presently), and the Roxy in Clifton Heights, PA. He was proud supporting his family hosting banquets in the Sunset Banquet room which sat 400+ people for weddings and parties. Family life was spent working together on married Anne Christine ‘Chris’ DiPietro in May of 1962. She was the love of his life. He loved to reminisce about his youth smiling when he described his 57′ Black Buick convertible which apparently Mom drove around town with the top down! They had 3 children, Dominick Carl, Ann Genevieve, and Christopher Alonzo who grew up in Delaware County and spent summers at the New Jersey shore at a long-standing family rental, 5 Marine Place, Ocean City in the family since the had a passion for nature and the ocean including deep sea exploration. He began Scuba Diving and raised to Dive Master level with the CY Dive Club certifying other divers at a local quarry. He traveled weekly to dive off Barnegat, NJ on the East Coast shipwrecks and down to the Florida Keys or the Caribbean including the Cayman Islands and Saba. He could tell you the history of all the wrecks he dove on bringing up artifacts such as anchors, portholes, and WWII China. He became an expert under water spear fishermen, deep sea diver and took on underwater photography in the early 70’s finishing off his scuba career with underwater videography. His proudest moment was in 1977 catching an 18lb Lobster which we all nicknamed ‘Big Frank’.Dom co-owned and managed Lou’s Steaks on 63rd Street with his Father Carl and then owned and operated a family business called T&B Deli in Holmes, PA for over 10 years. Dom was an avid sportsman. During his youth, he learned how to handle firearms and once he retired enjoyed his free time shooting clays competitively with the Delaware County Sportsman was the son of the late Achille (Carl) DiPietro and Splendora (Nora) (nee Verdecchio) DiPietro, brother to the late Elizabeth (Joy) cherished his family especially his Grandchildren, Gavin (Alexandra), Dominique and Anna. He is survived by 5 great grandchildren, Selena, Antoneo, Melena, Mabel, and Dominick.
