Dominga Almodovar Colon, loved deeply by her family and friends, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Port Chester, NY after a long illness. She was born January 10, 1926 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Reyes Almodovar and Dominga Velez. She immigrated to New York at the age of 21. She became the loving wife of the late Felix Valois Colon and was happily married for 55 years.
Dominga was the devoted mother of Aileen Colon of White Plains, NY and Nancy Mason (George) of Summerville, S.C. She was the beloved grandmother of Catherine Chagnon (Daniel) and David and Sharon Garcia and the proud great-grandmother to Isabelle, Sophia, Ava and Grant Garcia. Mingui, as she liked to be called, is survived by her sister, Enedina Almodovar living in Cidra, PR, and her nephews and niece Edgar, Eric, David and Deardree. She was predeceased by her devoted grandson, David Garcia.
Dominga was the matriarch of her family who had a passion for cooking and keeping of family traditions. She was an avid gardener, enjoying needlepoint and crafting. She loved listening to music, especially Glenn Miller.
She will be missed dearly for her witty sense of humor and her knack for making others laugh. Her greatest accomplishment was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
