Dolores Powell Nickens died peacefully on October 21, 2021 at home with her family at her side. She was born April 13, 1930 in Lake County, Tennessee, a daughter of Mary Powell and Thomas Paschall. She was reared in Dexter, Missouri and graduated from Dexter High School.

Dolores married Thomas L. Nickens on December 20, 1947. They were the proud parents of 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She received a Bachelor’s degree from Weber State College and both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the University of Utah. She worked for 18 years at the University Medical Center as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She later worked as Director of Social Work at St. Benedicts Hospital and then at Manor Care Nursing Home. She was selected as President of the Northern Branch of the NASW and awarded the honor of being selected as the Social Worker of the year in the Utah Northern Branch.

Dolores will be remembered for her devotion to family, her generosity and her faith in God.

She is survived by her children Joel Hardy (son-in-law) of Vacaville, CA; Terry (Jo Anne) Nickens of Katy, TX; Judy Nickens, South Ogden, UT; Paula Nickens, Harrisville, UT and Debra Brown, Harrisville, UT; 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Tom, her daughter Vicki Lynn Hardy and her granddaughter Janna Marie Hardy.
