DEVEREUXDolores M. Devereux, 83, of New Hartford, died peacefully Wednesday, February 3, 2016, with her family by her side. Born November 15, 1932 in Skowhegan, Maine, she was the daughter of Charles and Rose (Trembley) Day. At Skowhegan High School, “Dee Dee” Day was a cheerleader and played basketball. She married Brainard “Red” Devereux in 1951; they settled in New Hartford in 1954. Dolores devoted much of her life to raising her large family, but also worked for many years in local retail stores, as a bookkeeper for Devrex Cutter Grinding, and in the offices of Dr. Donald Daly and Dr. Scott Saunders before retiring in 2004. She was happiest working in the fresh air, playing with color and form to create beautiful flower gardens. She was an avid sports fan and a fine athlete, a backyard birder, a talented seamstress, knitter, and good with tools. She liked puzzles and jazz music and having the whole family at home. She will be remembered for her gentle, intuitive nature and her wonderful way with babies, animals, and all growing things. She leaves behind her children Keith Devereux of Winsted, Gail Resha (and husband Joe) of Torrington, Dana Devereux of Pittsfield, Maine; Wade Devereux of New Hartford, Kelly Morton (and husband Larry) of Sugar Land, Texas; and April Devereux (and fiance Art Helmus) of Litchfield; her grandchildren Paul Delasco, Raegan Howard, Ethan Devereux, Cara Morton, Connor Morton, Emily Allen, Jacob Allen, and Kelsey Allen. She was predeceased by a son, Bruce R. Devereux, and a brother, John B. Day. Services will be private. Interment at Village Cemetery, New Hartford will be held in the spring.
