Dolores Elaine Hardoin, age 83, passed away Monday morning, December 29, 2014 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. She was born on March 10, 1931 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Herman and Elsie Mathews Kersten. Dolores graduated from Denby High School. In high school, Dolores met her soon-to-be husband, Leonard, and they married shortly after graduation on May 27, 1950. They lived briefly in California while Leonard served in the US Navy before returning to Michigan to raise a family. Living in a lake house near Farwell, MI, Dolores enjoyed raising her five children. Her most cherished memories included time spent with family and friends out on the lake as well as camping, snowmobiling, and square dancing.

Dolores was a fantastic cook and very gifted in clerical work. Throughout her career she worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper. And as a hobby, Dolores had a great passion for doing ceramics and quilting. She handmade many quilts and gifted them to her children and grandchildren. Dolores and Leonard retired to Florida for ten years before moving back to Michigan in 2000. For the past three years, Dolores lived at Hope Woods Senior Community in Kalamazoo, where she truly treasured her many new friendships. Dolores received such great care from her doctors and staff at Hospice of Southwest Michigan. She deeply desired to recognize these gracious caregivers, with a special thank you to her personal nurse, Pam Post. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband on January 8, 2010.

Dolores is survived by her five children and their spouses, Deborah & Larry Schoof of Tucson, AZ, Matthew & Brenda Hardoin of Connelly Springs, NC, Barbara & Daniel Williams of Kalamazoo, MI, Leonard & Tara Hardoin of Spring, TX and Robert & Sherry Hardoin of Magnolia, TX; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, William & Terri Kersten and Robert & Pat Kersten; a brother-in-law and his wife, James & Mary Hardoin; and several nieces and nephews.
