Dick O. Sanchez of Moscow died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Gritman Medical Center with family by his side. He was 88. Dick was born October 14, 1929 in San Francisco to Dionisio and Orosia Sanchez Yzuel. The family moved to Boise when Dick was 5. He attended school there, graduating from Boise High. He then enrolled in Boise Junior College, attending for two years, before being drafted into the Army as a paratrooper. He and Dolores Johnson were married in Winnemucca, Nevada on April 27, 1952. They were stationed in Georgia and Fayetteville, NC before his honorable discharge in 1953. They moved to Boise where Dick went to work for the Idaho Department of Transportation, moving to Palouse, WA and later to Moscow where Dick completed his degree in geology at the University of Idaho. He continued working for the Highway Department, retiring in 1987. Dick was a skilled craftsman. He could build or fix anything. He added the “tower” onto their home along with a gazebo, decks and more, all surrounded by a wrought iron fence. He loved his home, making the yard a show piece. Surviving are his wife of nearly 66 years, Dolores, at their home and children, Lisa (Kyle) Hawley of Moscow, David (Judith) Sanchez of Coeur d’Alene, Jonathan (Gina) Sanchez of Snohomish, WA, Paula (Bill) Blume of Boise, Carla (Jeff) Helbling and Dick II (Patty) Sanchez, both of Moscow. Dick also leaves 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Dick will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his big family and they loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and an infant son, Mark.
