Diane Lynn (Hoppus) Lavrenz was born May 24th 1949 in Bancroft IA to Ray & HJ “Toots” (Okeefe) Hoppus. She died on September 16th 2020 at Mercy One Hospital in Mason City after bravely fighting an illness. She graduated from Burt High School in 1967. Diane married the love of her life Harold Lavrenz on February 12 1971 in Burt IA while Harold was home on leave from Vietnam. Although they were in the same grade and did their entire school time together they never dated. They spent the first year living in Fountain Colorado while Harold finished his enlistment as an MP at Ft Carson. They returned home to Burt where they have remained ever since living in her childhood home. They raised two sons Dan and Andy. She was at every concert and sports game. Even though she really didn’t like sports or always understand it, she was always there. She was a devoted mother. And the best cook around. Her sons cherished her. Diane worked at Lordson’s meat packing plant in Britt until the birth of their second son. She always joked that Andy was directly due to going on strike at work. After the kids were all in school she went to work as a cook at Exceptional Opportunities in Burt. Later 4 Sons Handy Shop convenience store in Algona, and finally many years at Town Mart in Burt. She really enjoyed talking with her customers. After she retired she loved doing puzzles, reading, doing arts and crafts, making jewelry. She could knit and crochet, counted cross stitch, and playing cards. She loved feeding and watching birds, and planting flowers and doing yard work. They were members at Cutty’s in Okoboji and loved camping there, and spending time in the lodge at their “Tired & Retired” retreats. She absolutely loved her special friends and the time spent at her coloring group at the Burt Library. Many would be surprised to know that she showed registered quarter horses as a child and young adult. She was accomplished and awarded. Diane was always known for her quit witt and sense of humor. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. You always knew exactly where you stood with her. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Harold of Burt. Sons Dan & Linda Lavrenz of Fairfax MN, and Andrew & Kelli Lavrenz of Buffalo Center. Grandchildren Matt, Ryan, Amy, Cameron, & Cole. A brother Jay Hoppus in Tennessee.
