Dennis Robert Flynn, 74, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, May 8, 2015 at Aperion Care Center in Jacksonville.
He was born August 14, 1940 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Edward J. and Elizabeth Massman Flynn. He married Judith Ann Zenge, the love of his life, on February 11, 1964 in Indianapolis, IN and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Sean Patrick (Mindy) Flynn of Gulf Breeze, FL; two grandchildren, Konner Patrick Flynn and Eryn Mackenzie Flynn, both of Gulf Breeze, FL; three brothers, J. Edward Flynn and Larry J. (Martha) Flynn, both of Jacksonville, IL, and Gregory Lee Flynn of Boston, MA; and one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Molli Jo Flynn, and his parents.
Dennis graduated from Jacksonville High School with the class of 1959. He owned and operated Flynn Truck Stop and later worked for Mobil Chemical, Tenneco, and Pactiv, retiring with 36 years of continuous service. He was a member of First Christian Church of Jacksonville. He very much enjoyed volunteering at Passavant Area Hospital and was honored to receive special recognition for his dedicated service in 2014. He enjoyed antiquing and looking for “just one more piece” of Watt Pottery to add to his collection.
In years past, Dennis served on the Jacksonville Theater Guild Board of Directors and, along with his good friend, Coy Burnett, enjoyed building the sets for Theater Guild productions. During the 1980’s, Dennis was also very involved with Jacksonville Pony-Colt League.
Without a doubt, Dennis loved and cherished his two grandchildren. Though they were miles away, he spoke with them often and kept up with their activities. He loved his family and enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. With his ever present sense of humor, he never ate at a restaurant without teasing the waitress/waiter about them paying his bill. Everyone knew that being teased by Dennis was his personal method of demonstrating his affection.
