Dennis L. “Mac” McGowan, 57, of East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at his residence. Dennis was born on July 20, 1957 in East St. Louis, IL at Christian Welfare Hospital. He graduated from St.Paul High School of Highland, IL in 1975.

He served in the United States Navy from 1984-1993, when he received honorable discharge. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Ranger in San Francisco, CA, and the USS Kittyhawk in San Diego, CA. He was ranked as a second class Petty Officer, and worked as a Catapult Captain Deckage Operator and a Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Instructor. He received two good conduct medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Navy Achievement Medal, a Southwest Asia Service Medal, and three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. He served in the Gulf War, Desert Storm, and in the Iraqi Operation Southern Watch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. & Mary Ann McGowan, nee Patrick, of East St. Louis, IL. He is survived by two sons, Blake Hastings of St. Louis, MO, and Brandon McGowan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and one granddaughter of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
