Dennis Behounek, age 95, of Livermore passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Dennis LeRoy Behounek, the son of Louis and Julia (Zeman) Behounek, was born on October 27, 1924 on the farm near Pocahontas, Iowa. He graduated from Livermore High School in 1942. Dennis served as a B-29 radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. During the Air Offensive against Japan, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star, the Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On November 20, 1954 Dennis was united in marriage with Agnes Taylor in Minneapolis, MN. He had worked as a farmer and a rural carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1988. Dennis was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Otto-Field American Legion Post #415 of Livermore. He enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps, following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish Dennis’s memory are his children, Denise (Ronald) Christian son of Bode, Michael (Rhonda) Behounek of Livermore, Jeannine (Russell) Zuck of Dunkerton and Anne (Robert) Golwitzer of Winterset; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Catherine Behounek and 17 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, “Teddy”; a son, Christopher; a grandson, Andrew Golwitzer; brothers, Paul, Jerome, Virgil and Donald Behounek; and a sister, Jeanne Uhlenhake.
