Delores Hemphill passed Monday, February 2nd at 84 years of age in Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa.  She was born February 13th, 1930 in her parent’s home in Garfield, Iowa.  Delores is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Glen, and her parents Claude and Ollie Finks.  

Delores attended Garfield Country School and Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa.  Following school Delores worked as a telephone operator in Centerville where she worked until meeting and later marrying Glen in 1951.  That same year they were blessed with their daughter Kathy.  Glen and Delores lived in Des Moines where Glen worked driving a truck until 1954, when they moved to rural Corydon and made their residence until 2001.  Delores worked as a homemaker, farm aide, devoted wife and mother.  After retirement Delores and Glen made their residence in Chariton where Delores resided until just recently.  

Delores came from a large family having two brothers, Jimmy and Leland, and four sisters, Mary Slavin, Marion Morlan, Aldene Traylor, Claudine Wilson, and Peggy Howe who is still with us.

Delores is survived by her daughter Kathy Hitt and husband David of Woodburn, three grandchildren Lea Ann Kirscher and husband Larry of Osceola, Kristi Shelton and husband James of Derby, and Jeffrey Hitt of West Des Moines.  Delores also is survived by five great grandchildren Lauren Hagan and husband Bret of Osceola, Caleb Shelton of Woodburn, Landin Kirscher and Autumn and Ava Shelton as well as a great, great grandchild Mia Hagan.

Delores was a light to her family.  She was always quick to laugh and slow to anger.
