Delores Marion (Jeffery) Johnson
Delores (Dee) Johnson of Englewood, Colorado left our world on Christmas Eve
(December 24) 2020. Dee is survived by her loving children, Jim (Linda) Johnson,
Lynn (Mike) Slouka and Jerry (Lisa) Johnson, her adoring grandchildren, Wesley,
Austin, Erica, Krenza, Andrea, Sydney, Tatia, Gary and Steven, and countless great
grandchildren, family members and friends.
Her loving husband, Dick Johnson, preceded her in death in 2017.
Her greatest achievement in life was her family and she loved them all fiercely and
unconditionally.
Delores was born on January 2, 1932 in Superior, Wisconsin to James and Katherine
Jeffery. She had one older sister, Doris, who died in 2002. Delores graduated from
Central High School in 1950. While in school she was very musical, playing saxophone
in the marching, jazz and concert bands and singing in the Choir and Triple Trio. Her
love of music stayed with her throughout her life and she listened to jazz music as
much as possible. She got to sing on the local radio in Superior when WEBC hosted a
local talent show in the late 1940’s. While working for Gately’s Department Store as a
clerk, she had the opportunity to model the newest spring fashions, being featured in
her local newspaper.
She met the love of her life and future husband, Richard (Dick) Johnson in 1951 when
they both worked at the Palace Theater. On December 15th, 1952 Dick asked Dee to go
on their first date. He picked her up at the theater and they went to Clara’s bar. They
were together from that day forward.
In 1953 Dick was drafted into the Army. He asked Dee to marry him on December 1st
1953, and 2 days later he left for basic training. He was stationed in Korea for 16
months and returned home in mid October 1955. Richard and Delores married on
November 12th, that same year.
They lived in Superior, Wisconsin until they moved to Denver, Colorado on January
1st, 1957. In the spring of ‘57 they moved to Littleton and managed a small apartment
complex as a side job. They became parents in August 1959 when Jim was born and
they moved to Northglenn where they bought a little house. Their family grew when
Lynn was born in 1963 and then Jerry in 1965. They moved the family one last time in
1966, to Englewood. They lived in the same home for more than 50 years, where they
built countless memories with their children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Delores began working as an elementary school aide in the early 1970’s at Charles Hay
Elementary School. She spent her years helping children on the playground, in
classrooms and as the Library Media Specialist through the 1980’s. She had a special
fondness for children’s books and loved inspiring young boys and girls to read.

Dee and Dick loved the outdoors – they loved to camp and they loved to travel. The two
of them would take long cross country trips on their touring motorcycle, and later in
their RV. Dee cherished being with family and friends, whether it was around the
kitchen table or a campfire.
Dee loved her husband dearly, her children fiercely and her grandchildren admiringly.
She lovingly took on the role of surrogate grandmother to countless friends of all of
her grandchildren and each and every one of them knew how loved they were by
Grandma Dee.
Dick and Dee enjoyed hanging out with them all and watching them grow into
beautiful young adults.
Everyone who knew Dee, knew how much she cared for them.
She will be deeply missed by many, especially her family and friends.

as they celebrate her wonderful life.
