Delmar Harry “Del” Grosvenor, the son of Edward and Bessie Florence Kelly Grosvenor, was born March 19, 1911 in Colfax, Iowa. He soon demonstrated a love of music, but after piano lessons at age 5, he decided it was easier to play “by ear”. During his teenage years a siege of diphteriaand encephalitis caused his vocal cords to malfunction. They never recovered. Del became known as “Whispering Hope” and discontinued his formal education to play in a band.
Del was united in marriage to Helen E. Jacobs on April 29, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa. He began farming west of Kellogg, Iowa, along with a job at Maytag and regular “gigs” with fellow musicians. After Judy and Joyce were born, he became a salesman for Occo Feed. In 1959, he made a commitment to follow Jesus, and he witnessed to all, of God’s mercy. another educational pursuit developed, he learned to tune pianos in his “retirement” years. He also refinished and sold pianos, organs and anything else not being used!
Del passed quietly from this life to the Heavenly Kingdom at 4:15 P.M., Friday, July 16, 1999 at his home.
