Delbert E. (Del) Roberts, age 79 of Freeport, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was born July 13, 1939; the son of Donald and Sarah Mae (Schnell) Roberts. He was a 1958 graduate of Freeport High School. Del married Gloria Dauphin on September 17, 1966 at the Main Street EUB Church in Freeport.
He had honorably served in the United States Navy. He worked as a machinist for Woodward Governor in Rockford for 13 years and later for Newell Window Furnishings for 23 years, retiring in 2001. Del was affiliated with the Freeport First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Indian Trail Archers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery, motorcycling and woodworking. He loved his cats Rusty & Spike.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Roberts of Freeport; son, Dean (Wendy) Roberts of Freeport; grandson, Zachary Roberts; step-grandchildren, Anson & Edward Howard, Trisha Taapken, and T.J. Melester; brothers-in-law, Charles (Marcia) Dauphin and Burt (Peg) Dauphin; sister-in-law, Diana (Jim) Chaplin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald (Helen) Roberts; mother, Sarah Mae (Harry) Risen; brother, Merlyn; and sister, Doris (Robert) Stake.
