Debra A. Schrum, age 59, of Rensselaer passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at St. Mary Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. The daughter of Beth (Dalton) Lyons of Brook, Indiana and the late Richard D. Lyons, she was born December 13, 1951 in Rensselaer, IN. On November 29, 1969, in Rensselaer, Debra married David F. Schrum who survives.

Deb was a lifetime resident and a 1969 graduate of Rensselaer Central High School. She continued her education at the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, receiving her R.N. degree in 1984 and her B.S.N. in July, 2005.

Deb worked at the Jasper County Hospital over 35 years, first as an emergency room aide, then a registered nurse and in April, 2000, was named the Director of Jasper County Hospital Community Relations Department and Foundation She was a tireless worker for the Jasper County Hospital Capitol Campaign.

Deb was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer. Deeply involved in the local community, she was a life member of the Theta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Chi sorority, where she had served as both Chapter President and Grand Council President, along with many other offices over the years. She was a member of the Jasper County Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, the Greater Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce, where she had served as Vice-President, and the Jasper County Junior Achievement.

Deb was also a counselor for the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and was current President of the Indiana Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations Society. Surviving with her loving husband Dave are three children, Wendi (Frank) Johnson, Kari (Todd) Goodman and Kevin (Laura Zak) Schrum, all of Rensselaer; six grandchildren, Brenna and Holly Johnson, Reagan, Cody and Kinzey Goodman and Kaya Zak Schrum; her mother, Beth Lyons of Brook; one brother, Mike (Diane) Lyons of Rensselaer and one sister, Vicki (Matt) Danahue of Brook.
