Deborah Elizabeth Zapf of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015. Debbie was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1949, and she spent her childhood in Deerfield, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Virginia (Ludes) Zapf, who immeasurably enriched her life. She is survived by her devoted sister, Barbara (Matthew) Saczawa, her nephew, Jeffrey Zuchowski, and her niece, Karen Flaherty, and Karen’s children: Meagan, Katherine and Jack. Also surviving are her cousin, Leona (Mike) Klausman and her family in Indiana. Although Debbie’s last years were difficult due to her prolonged illness, she had many happy memories of her years as an Executive Assistant at the architectural and engineering firm of Wiss, Janney and Elstner, in Northbrook, Illinois, as well as of her travels and of the family home on the lake in Wisconsin’s northwoods. She was accomplished at needlepoint, while books, movies, music and PBS were an important part of her life. Enriching that life over many decades were her long-time friends, Cindy, Suzer, Julie and Fran. We will all miss Debbie’s smile and her laugh. The family thanks Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center for the excellent and loving care she received in her final days.
