David went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017. He was born on August 28, 1941 in Battle Creek, MI a son of Ralph and Berniece (Sumner) Pride. David entered the US Army in 1964 where he received the most outstanding trainee award out of nearly 300 men and was honorably discharged in 1966. He had a 25 year management and marketing career in the transportation industry, the last 16 of which was spent with Gainey Transportation Services.
David was a loving, devoted husband and father and an uncompromising family man. He was well loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed horseback riding in his younger years, and loved to water ski in the summer with his family. He also enjoyed sports, especially watching the Tigers. He liked to travel and managed to visit all 48 contiguous states. David loved serving the Lord and gospel music, and he spread his joy to others by singing at churches, hymn sings, and nursing homes. He also recorded two compact discs.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terrance Pride; and a niece, Lynette Pride. On September 5, 1964 David married the love of his life, the former Martha E. Brandt, who survives. Also surviving are three children, David L. Pride of Climax, Brian L. (Jill) Pride of Lawton and Beth A. (Micah) DeWaal of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, Luke, Devin, Alyssa, Andrew, Lana, Micayla and Eli; a sister, Patricia (Paul) Knauss; a sister-in-law, Nadine Pride; and several nieces and nephews.
