East Greenbush – David R. Briggs, 91, of Community Way and formerly of Nancy Drive North Greenbush died Friday, January 4, 2019, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.
Born in White Plains, NY, he was son of the late Charles A. Briggs and Carrie Lillian Harvey Briggs and husband of Margaret B. Selke Briggs for 66 years. He was a graduate of White Plains High School class of 1944, the Associated College of Upper New York in Plattsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Briggs was employed by Allstate Insurance for 42 years, retiring in December of 1994 as a General Agent. After retirement, Dave volunteered for the Red Cross and many years at the Regional Food Bank.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling and collecting coins and stamps. He was a member of the Blooming Grove Reformed Church in North Greenbush and an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Debra (Wayne) Freihofer, Loudonville and Susan (Jeffrey) Belanger, Nashville, TN; a son, Charles (Wendy) Briggs, Castleton; his grandchildren, Gretchen Freihofer, Matthew (Rachel), Allison and Emily Belanger, David and Elizabeth Briggs; step-grandchildren, Brent (Kate) and Keith (Kathleen) Freihofer; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 siblings, Charles A. Briggs IV and Edward H. and Nelson L. Briggs and Mary F. Leff.
Services were private at the convenience of the family.
