David Lloyd Nivens passed away peacefully on May 31, 2018. He was 81.
David was born on January 9th 1937 to the late, Robert and Lillie May Nivens in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and enlisted in the US Marine Corps. At this time David met and married Lois Dotson in 1958. Stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, David was an airplane mechanic and Asst. Crew Chief. After serving his country, David and his family moved to Charlotte where he served on the Charlotte Police Dept. David retired in 1981 and worked security part-time at Providence Day School. David liked being with young people, NASCAR, watching the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels.
David is survived by his son Mark Nivens (wife Susan) and daughter Angelia Nivens (husband Peter), granddaughter Courtney Teeter (husband Jeremy) and grandsons, Ian and Max Nivens-Reynard. David was also blessed with great grandsons Wes and Wil Teeter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois and eldest daughter Melody.
