David LeRoy Blackinton

David LeRoy Blackinton returned to his Heavenly Father on January 30, 2016, just 2 months
short of his 100th birthday. He was born on April 2, 1916 in Devil’s Slide, Utah to Wallace and
Alpha Blackinton. He married his sweetheart, Val Parkinson on May 2, 1938, and they were
later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 63 years. Dad was an active
member of the LDS church fulfilling many positions.

Dad was superintendent of Blackinton and Son Canning Co. for close to 34 years, until its
closure, but continued to work in the canning industry until he was well into his 70’s. Dad was
an avid fisherman and spent hours fishing the Ogden and South Fork Rivers.

There has never been a nicer or better man. He bore himself with quiet dignity for nearly 100
years. He stood tall and straight in his demeanor and even better in his character. He was kind,
gentle, hard working, honest and generous. He had no enemies and was respected by
everyone. We loved him dearly with all our hearts. Dad was a man of few words, but were all
kind words, flavored by his keen sense of humor.

He is survived by his children: David P. (Jane) Blackinton, Diane Woolsey, and Kaye (Dan)
Reeder; 12 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren. Also his sister, Marjorie Bell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 sisters, Faye and Nedra and brother,
Reynolds.
