Elder David Lee Hayes, Sr., 80, a resident of 900 N. Centennial St., died Monday, May 9, 2005, at High Point Regional Hospital.

He was born April 10, 1925 in High Point, a son of Herbert W. and Lula Crowd Hayes. A lifelong resident of High Point, he was a retired machine operator at Leggett & Platt, and a member, elder and assistant pastor at Kings Chapel Holiness Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II. A daughter, Sharon Ann Hayes; his parents; and one sister, all preceded him in death.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Mrs. Katherine Diggs Hayes of the home; one daughter, Karen L. Nawaz of the home; five sons, Titus J. Hayes and Reginald E. Hayes, both of the home, David Lee (Barbara) Hayes, Jr., and Allen J. Hayes, both of High Point, and Kenneth O. (Robin) Hayes of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia (Joe) Sanchez of New York, N.Y.; four brothers, Herbert W. Hayes, Jr. and Robert Hayes, both of High Point, James (Helen) Hayes of Greensboro, and Grant (Barbara) Hayes of Detroit, Mich.; nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and many friends.
