A devoted husband, father and grandfather. A loyal friend and neighbor who always asked about your family, with genuine interest in the lives of all those he came to know. An active man who loved to travel, experience the great outdoors (especially fishing!) and walk the dog.
David Louis Shenot of Glenelg, Maryland, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, of natural causes, a little over a year after losing Mary Louise “Lulu” (Scott) Shenot, his beloved wife of 60 years. He is survived by their four children and spouses — Jeff and Alison Shenot; Christine Shenot and John Nicholson; Kathy and Will Chetelat; and John and Amy Shenot; as well as his six grandchildren — Ellie, Luke and Emily Chetelat; and Joshua, Gabrielle and Sam Shenot. David was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Rose Shenot, his brother Charles Shenot, and his sister Dorothy Drazenovich.
Dave (known as “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren) was born in Wexford, Pennsylvania, and grew up on a prominent family farm. He paid his college expenses at Pennsylvania State University by raising chickens. After graduation, he leapt into life head first. In short succession, he married Mary Lou, they had four children, and he launched a successful career in engineering sales.
What mattered most to Dave was time spent with family and friends. As his kids grew up, many of their friends would become his and Lulu’s friends, coming to Glenelg for swim parties, leaf-raking parties and even roofing parties. The Shenot home became well known for good times and Dave could be found quizzing next gens on their latest plans as he danced like no one was watching and tended to the grill.
He also loved to travel, with a profound curiosity and spirit of adventure that put nothing off limits.
