David Lee Kommer passed away on Saturday, December 25 at the Zablocki Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He was born on July 2, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents were Alfred and Maxine (Covington) Kommer.

He lived there until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served in the 1st Marines in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971.  Upon returning to the states, David moved to Oklahoma and became a cross-country truck driver until his retirement in July of 2018.

In November of 2018, David was involved in a car accident where he became a quadriplegic, but was still able to live a good quality of life for three years with his wife, children, and friends.

He was passionate about many things, including motorcycles, trucks, and his family.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane, children; Sara (Jason) Hanstedt of Sobieski Wisconsin, Michael Kommer of Wisconsin Rapids; Mother-in-law, Doris Repta of Wisconsin Rapids, Grandson, Oliver Hanstedt, and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mothers, Ollie and Audrey, Father- in- law, and several extended family members, very good friends, and beloved pets.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Fisher House of Wisconsin and the staff of Zablocki Veterans Hospital and the Spinal Injury and Disease Hospital for their care and support over the years.
