David James McGuire, age 87, a resident of Orchard Beach for 50 years, and formerly of Baltimore, passed away on October 11, 2016.
He was born on March 7, 1929, in Baltimore. As a young man, he played basketball, softball, and football in local leagues. At age 17 he enlisted in the US Navy, serving from 1946 until 1949, aboard the USS Henderson. He spent time in China and Japan, during the occupation period. A modest man, he was not one to brag about having saved the life of a fellow sailor who had fallen overboard. After the service, he worked for the US Post Office as a letter carrier until his retirement. As an active member of his church, he served as past president of the St. Jane Frances Chapter of the Holy Name Society; was a member of the Monsignor Raymond P. Kelly Council of the Knights of Columbus; served as a volunteer Sacristan; and past president of the Ushers Society. He enjoyed watching the Ravens and the Orioles, and loved to dance with his wife Jackie.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years: Jacqueline McGuire; his brother in law Jon Webb; and his sister in law Mary Catherine Webb.
