David H. “Dave” Kidd, 72, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 5, 2011) in the comfort of his north side Elkhart home after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

He was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Monticello, Ky., to Marion and Elizabeth (Davis) Kidd Dishman. They preceded him in death, along with a son, Kenny; three sisters, Grace Kidd, Gladys Whitcher and Thelma Blake; and a brother, Dennis Kidd.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ronnie, Rosie, Jerry and Matthew; daughters Linda R. Kidd and Lisa A. Kidd, both of Elkhart, and their children, David R. Kidd, India L. Wheeler and Girbaud M. “Bo” Hines. Additionally, two sisters, Helen McAdoo of North East, Pa., and Doris Ferrell of Monticello; and a brother, Gale Kidd of Monticello, survive; along with a host of nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.

Dave founded Van America and Goshen Coach, both of Goshen. He later acquired Cobra and Shasta Industries and incorporated them into the company that later became what is known today as Forest River Industries. He was an avid golfer, and could always be found on a course if he wasn’t at the office. Dave had many friends and acquaintances, but his closest buddies shared “the links” with him, meeting for morning coffee and then setting off to visit yet another area golf course.

Memorial donations may be given to the David H. Kidd Memorial Fund, c/o Billings Funeral Home.

“…And He who keeps all players in His sight,

Walking the royal and ancient hills of light,

Stand benignant at the eighteenth hole,

To Everlasting Golf consign your soul.”
