Those left to honor David’s memory are his son, Jeff McDermott of West Virginia; three grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Mike) Goodwin of Newton; two nieces, Missy and Pat Goodwin; his great-niece: Sharis Jones; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Verda H. Daniels McDermott.
David served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam War.
David was a graduate of Newton High School in Newton, Iowa.
David grew up in Newton and when he returned from Vietnam he lived in Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado for many years. David moved back to Newton in 2005. He work for Tropiquatics in Denver, Colorado, delivering and setting up aquariums at Wal-Mart stores and at pet stores in the western and southwestern United States. David was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Colorado.
