David Mood was the third of five children born to Frank and Iris Mood being the younger brother to Marilyn and Frank and the older brother to Daniel and Laura.
He was born in December 1948 in South Carolina where his father was attending Bible College.
David moved with his family to Wilmington, Delaware while his father attended seminary. The family lived in New Jersey with David’s paternal grandparents for a year before his father began his ministry work. After that he moved with the family to various places including Jefferson Center, PA, the mountains of Kentucky where many boyhood memories were made, and then back to Delaware. This time in the little town of Milford where he graduated from High school in 1967. In High School he was the basketball team manager and played the trumpet in the school band.
He attended Shelton college for couple of years where he enjoyed being a part of the soccer team.
During the Vietnam war, David joined the Navy and trained at Great Lakes. He was stationed in Japan for three years and then in San Diego and served aboard the USS Prairie. For his service to his country, David was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
His love for everything Japanese was born while living in Japan. He also learned to ski during his time in Japan and has enjoyed many ski trips over the years. In recent years he even found and watched a Japanese channel on digital TV and tried to get everyone else hooked on it as well.
After returning to civilian life, David moved in with his brother, Frank and his wife Diana and attended Towson University graduating in the mid-1970s with a degree in computer science.
While waiting for call backs from interviews, David worked with his brother and sister-in-law at Joni Unlimited.
He began his working career at Westinghouse which was later bought out by Northrup Grumman where he worked as a systems administrator until he retired in 2015.
David was generous to his family often inviting them to join him at his time shares and Northrop Grumman’s family day at King’s Dominion.
He joined the Chesapeake Paddler’s Association in 1993 and enjoyed kayaking with Pier 7 for many years. To his fellow paddlers, he was known as Dave the Wave. One of his trademarks was his kayak on the roof of his car which is where he stored it.
Annually he attended the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Crownsville and develop a love for everything Celtic especially the music which led to his attendance to Celtic festivals every year as well.
David had a creative side and did many crafts such as handmade cards, different types of painting, basket weaving, calligraphy, jewelry making, crocheting, and so much more.
He filled his retirement with golfing at Eisenhower and Troy Hills clubs.
During retirement, he also started painting classes joining the Society of Decorative Painters and his local chapter the Chesapeake Bay Painters. He enjoyed learning new skills at monthly classes and their Annual Sail Away event in Ocean City, MD. Even traveling to conventions in such places as Florida and Kansas.
In 2019 David discovered through the senior center that as a senior citizen he could pay one price and attend as many classes as he could take at Arundel Community College. So, he signed up for language, art, and exercise classes taking 6 at a time!
He enjoyed listening to books on CD and always had one playing whenever he was driving.
He also had interests in essential oils, herbs and natural healing.
He was a pack rat and literally kept everything he had some interest in and hardly ever threw anything away!
In October 2020, David unexpectedly and suddenly passed away in his condo in Glen Burnie.
David is preceded in death by his father Rev. Frank Rogers Mood DD, his mother Iris Geraldine Mood, his brother Daniel Lewis Mood, and his brother-in-law SW Baldwin. He is survived by his siblings Marilyn Baldwin, Frank Mood Jr, and Laura Bilbrey, a brother-in-law, 7 nephews, 1 niece, 3 great nieces, 2 great nephews, 1 great great niece, an uncle, Gerald Feezor, and numerous cousins.
