David Elton Shepard, age 85, of Owosso, Michigan has gone on to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 3, 2020. David, a loving father, husband and community member, was born on August 17, 1935 in Gaines, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents Elton and Clara (Klimmek) Shepard, inLaws Merle and Irene (Blakeslee) Parkinson and his sister Patricia (Shepard) John. He was married to the love of his life, Elaine (Parkinson) Shepard on July 19, 1958 and they were married for over 62 years. He is survived by his four children, his son Michael (Beverly) Shepard, Jeffrey (Kim) Shepard, Gregory (Lori) Shepard and Jennifer (Orlando) Gonzalez, his brother Richard (Jo) Shepard, his brother Jack (Carol) Shepard, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. David grew up and attended Byron Area Schools and graduated in 1954. During high school, he lived and worked on a farm as a learning experience. After high school, he attended Flint Community College, and he then enrolled in Buick’s Machine Repair Apprentice program and graduated in 1958 as a Journeyman. Soon after marrying Elaine, he was drafted into the Army for two years at Fort Benning, Georgia and is a proud military veteran. After the Army, he went to work for Universal Electric as a foreman. After a few years, he learned to become a Dental Lab Technician and worked for dentists, eventually owning Orability Dental Lab for 35 years until retiring in 2003. Volunteering was very important to David as he felt it was the most rewarding thing a person can do to make a difference in other’s lives. He was even named volunteer of the year one time for his work in the community. He was a longtime member of United Methodist Church, volunteering for many projects and mission trips, sang in the Choir and he even headed up the Youth Group at one point. He volunteered with the Salvation Army as a board member, ringing bells and many other projects. He was a very active member of the Owosso Kiwanis Club, heading up Peanut Sales for over 26 years. He also served as a President and a Lieutenant Governor. His proudest accomplishment was creating the Kiwanis Key Club at Owosso High School and the Builders Club at Owosso Middle School, as he greatly enjoyed working with the young people in the community.
