David E. Basket, 83, of Bristol, passed away Wednesday, June 29, in Elkhart.
David was born March 19, 1933, to Fred and Ann Basket in Ironwood, Mich.
He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1951, where he was a member of the marching band, pep band and ROTC rifle team. Dave furthered his education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he was in the U of M marching band and ROTC. He graduated with a degree in pre-professional program and chemical engineering.
On Jan. 17, 1959, he married Elizabeth A. Coutade in Coopersville, Mich.
Elizabeth survives, with one daughter, Marie Neuenschwander of Elkhart; a granddaughter, Andrea (E.J.) McFarland of Elkhart; step grandson Erich Neuenschwander of Elkhart; and step granddaughter Beth (Kyle) Willis of Mishawaka.
David was preceded in death by a son, Paul Basket and two brothers, Robert and Mhyron Basket.
David retired in 1995 from the Bayer Corp. (formerly Miles Laboratories) after 38 years of service, where he was primarily involved in design and construction of chemical plants and related facilities, with former assignments in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Israel and Canada. Dave was a member of Quarter Century Club at Bayer and held memberships in the American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was a certified registered professional engineer in Indiana and Ohio.
David was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol. He was a Third Degree member of the Bristol Council No. 11574 and a Fourth Degree member and a Color Corp member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 2035, which includes Bristol, Elkhart and Goshen. Dave enjoyed traveling, photography, golf, working in his yard and gardening and was an avid woodworker.
