David Delmer Meader, age 51, of Cass Lake, Minnesota journeyed to the spirit world while surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, December 13, 2020 from the Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.  He was born in Bemidji, MN on February 4, 1969, the son of DeAnna (Johnson) and Myron Smith.

David attended Lake Park Elementary and High School, Lake Park, MN, and graduated from Hawley High School, Hawley, MN in 1987.  He proudly played with the Hawley Nuggets football team during his senior year and was named “Rookie of the Year.”

David loved his family and friends immensely and had a gift of gab that always ended in a joke and with laughter.  David’s love of anything with an engine started in early childhood and the love of tools and grease ran deep within him.  There was always a pedal bike turned upside down in the front yard because “it needed work”.  Riding and driving snowmobiles, motorcycles, and fast, classic cars brought him great joy and he was always up for a fun road trip.  He enjoyed his work as a self-employed auto mechanic.  David and his high school sweetheart, Wanda (Nelson) Erdmann, together have one daughter, Ashlee Brooke, whom he loved very much.

He is reunited with his father, Myron Smith; stepfather, Vernon Charmichael; brother, Wayne Smith; grandmother, Isabelle Johnson; grandson, Easton Schlicht; aunties, Melvina “Bean” Omer, Jeanette “Gin” Underwood, Anita “Jat” Johnson, Greta Johnson and Cynthia Milan; uncle, Lawrence Rogers; nieces, Justine Stately-Smith and Baby M; nephew, Daniel J. Smith.

David leaves behind his only child, Ashlee (Kyle) Schlicht of Horace, ND; mother, DeAnna Charmichael of Cass Lake; siblings, Tony Smith, RoseMarie Johnson, Sandra Berlin, Suzette (Doug) Gaasvig, Chrystal “Chrissy” Lura, Verna “Bambi” (Cory) Mikkelson, Duane Smith, Sr., Marlin Smith and Shirley Smith; aunts, Beulah Stone and Sophia Jacobson; uncle, Ira Johnson; grandchildren, Taylor, Jaxon and Sky, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
