David Dean Adkins, 78, of 1535 Olde Hunting Trail,, Danville, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Kindred Hospital, Greensboro, NC. He had been hospitalized since December 24, 2009 with injuries resulting from an automobile accident. Born January 15, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Pearl Smith Adkins and the late Letcher Woody Adkins. He was married to Annie Rigney Adkins who preceded him in death August 11, 2007. David retired from Dan River, Inc. and worked for Piedmont Mall for five years in the maintenance department. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Liz†Campbell and husband, Lonnie of Dry Fork; five sisters, Liddie Murphy of Danville, Nannie Rigney of Callands, Macie George of Jonesville, NC, Margaret “Margie†Conard of Dry Fork and Laura Haskins and husband, Clark also of Dry Fork. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Randy Campbell and wife Melody, Tim Campbell and wife, Kate, Kevin Campbell and wife Kristy, Anthony Campbell and wife, Nikki and eight great-grandchildren, Morgan, MaKenzie, Mason, Caden, Michael, Claire, Emily and Ethan Campbell. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Tony Michael Rigney, and two brothers Robert E. Adkins and Letcher Sam Adkins.
