David Coolidge Murphy, formerly of 321 Lakeside Drive, departed this earth and went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 7, 2011. Born September 16, 1923 to the late Dave Beverly Murphy and the late Mary Rutledge Murphy. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise M. Holley and three brothers, Percy, Dudley and Nathan Murphy. He leaves behind his best friend and love of his life, his wife, Eunice Towler Murphy. He also leaves three very special nieces, Charlotte Scruggs of Gretna, Mary M. Sellers of Danville and Lynn M. Brown of Chester, VA. Also two Godly grandchildren, Sam and Savanna Norman. Also several other nieces, nephews and cousins; three sisters-in-law, Frances Towler of Chatham, Mary Ellen Barbour of Gretna and Cora Brumfield of Brookneal. He was a member of Blairs Baptist Church where he was a faithful member as long as he was able to attend. He was a member of American Legion Post 325 and the Dan River Mills Retirees Club where he worked 40 years in #4B dress department. In 1940 he joined the National Guard. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. His tour of duty saw action in Iceland, England, France and Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was a Technician Fifth Grade in the U. S. Army 759 Tank Battalion. He served from July 29, 1940 through June 27, 1945.
