David Burch Mylchreest, Sr., 89, of Middletown, husband of the late Mavis (Fisher) Mylchreest, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown on May 20, 1926, he was the second son of the late J. Warren Mylchreest and Grace (Burch) Mylchreest. David lived all of his life in Middletown where he was an Eagle Scout in Old Troop 6 and graduated Middletown High School in 1944. He served his country during World War II with the U. S. Army and during the Korean Conflict was a U. S. Air Force reserve officer. Following his graduating from Norwich University as a Civil Engineer in 1950, he returned to Middletown to join the family construction firm that was founded by his great grandfather in 1871. David was appointed as Chief Airport Engineer with the Department of Aeronautics in 1965 and was responsible for reconstruction of the main runway and the construction of the international wing at Bradley Field as well as the construction of the Oxford Airport. He formed his own Consulting Engineering firm in 1972 and during this period served as Town Engineer for the Towns of Haddam, Portland, Durham, Westbrook and East Hampton. He was also the senior partner in the Mylchreest & Nell Consulting Engineer P.C.
