David C. Becker, 73, of Peru passed away April 7, 2011 at his home. Dave was born June 4, 1937, in Marinette, WI to Reverend Edwin and Henrietta (Draeger) Becker. He married Suzanne L. Richmond on June 26, 1965 in Burlington, WI. Dave graduated from Oshkosh High School, Oshkosh, WI in 1956. He earned a B.S. and Mathematics Major from Heidelberg College in 1959 and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1961. After graduating, Dave held engineering jobs with Foster Grant, Abbott Labs and Janko Building Company of Peru in addition to various consulting projects. He joined Janko Building Co. as the General Manager in 1976 and later became Vice-President, building an illustrious career and retiring in 2002 at the age of 64. In his younger years, Dave enjoyed deer hunting, snow skiing, coaching softball, and photography. Originally from Wisconsin, Dave was an avid Packer Fan his entire life. Since his retirement, Dave devoted his time, energy and resources to both the Illinois Valley Animal Rescue (IVAR) and the Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association (IAMRA). His love for the Big Dog was evident in every shuttle trip, vet visit, weekend car ride, Mal Walk and doggie park outing. He helped to rehabilitate and train many four-legged fosters to be suitable, socialized, loving family members and was proud when they each found their forever home. Dave also raised one of his own malamutes, Kodi and adopted Tai, Yuki, Otis and Trigger in recent years, all of whom he will see at the bridge, along with others he has helped throughout the years. He is also survived by his current adopted friend, Harley and former fosters Deuce, Simone and Monty. Dave will be sorely missed by family, friends, colleagues and his four-legged companions. He is survived by his wife Suzanne along with his two daughters, Kathryn B. Becker of Montgomery, IL and Wendy Sue (Alex) Abate of Chicago and grandson, Alex David Abate; a brother Keith Becker; niece Kimberly (Curtis) Duffy and great nieces Ava and Eden; brothers and sister-in-laws Ruth Tutt, Jack (Elaine) Richmond, Kenny (Ruth) Richmond, Lee (Vic) Gruling; and uncle Paul Draeger.
