BRIGHAM CITY – Daryl Jean Hess Yates returned to the arms of her loving Heavenly Father and
Cherished husband on Thursday, February 4, 2016. She was 83. She was born on November 7, 1932 to Clarence Eugene Hess and Norma Loretta Larsen in Plymouth, Utah. She was the fourth of six children.
She grew up mostly in Brigham City, Utah and attended Box Elder High School. She married the
love of her life, Glen Abraham Yates, on October 20, 1949 and they were later sealed in the
Logan LDS Temple on April 4, 1963. They welcomed two sons and two daughters into their lives.
They were married nearly 47 years before Glen passed away far too young on September 28, 1996.
Daryl was a faithful member of the LDS church serving in numerous church positions. She was
always there to love and serve others and was beloved by many. Her greatest passion was family.
This included a love for family history and Glen and Daryl could often be found volunteering their
time at the Family History Center. Glen and Daryl also had the opportunity to bless the lives of
many in Texas by sharing the gospel they loved while serving a fullAtime mission together in 1991.
Daryl had many talents. She loved sewing, entertaining family and friends in her home and she was a
talented artist.
and a bountiful garden. She and Glen loved to travel. Whether it was a few days lounging on the shores
of Bear Lake, cruising the glaciers of Alaska, or exploring the canyons of New York City, they enjoyed
seeing the wonders of this earth.
She is survived by her four children Steven Yates, Robyn (Jeff) Whipple, Gregory (Debi) Yates and Rebecca (Wesley) Hutchins and 13 grandchildren and 16 greatAgrandchildren. She is also survived by two of her sisters Joann (Wray) Squires and Urayna (Russ) McCall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers (Elwyn and Wendell Hess) and one sister (Cherril Nelson). We can only imagine the joyous reunion taking place on the other side.
The family would like to thank Brenda and Wendy of AFI Hospice for their compassionate and
loving care during the last year of Daryl’s life.
